Bathing Tips For Kids During Winters

Bathing Tips For Kids During Winters

The sweaty summers and moist monsoons are over and now comes the time when you want to snuggle up in bed, under warm quilts and woolens and have that warm soup in your hands. The thought of bathing in winters can be daunting as you do not feel like getting into a shower. So, how do you expect your babies to be up for it when all they want is to sleep and play under the warm sun? This is why parents are always on the look out for bathing tips for kids during winters.  Bathing is essential-even during winters. Skipping a good bath is not an option- more so with the amount of dust and pollution that is in the air- bathing once a day becomes imperative. The prospect of going near the water or putting your body under it can be very chilling! Not to worry! Here are some bathing tips that you can use for kids during the winter season.

The best bathing tips for kids in winter

#1. Keep the water ready

The water should be lukewarm- not too hot and not too cold. A nice warm shower or a bath will definitely tempt kids to come inside the bathroom. If the water is ready it will be easier for you to convince them to come inside. Also read: How To Give A Sponge Bath To Your Baby

#2. Towels and change of clothes to be ready

Keep the towels and change of clothes at just a hands distance. Just after a bath, the child will feel cold and would need something warm. So immediately wrap the child in a big, nice towel. Keep the clothing set ready. As soon as you dry them put on their clothes. Avoid situations where you would be running to the cupboard to take out their clothes while they become blue waiting for you. Make them wear a cozy sweater and nice warm socks. It is the feet which feel cold first, so if feet are warm, the baby is warm.

#3. Moisturize

Make sure you first put on some clothes before you moisturise the kids. A lukewarm water bath tends to make the skin dry and so moisturising is a step that you cannot miss. You can use various moisturisers available for kids or you can even use oils like coconut and olive oil which tend to keep dryness at bay and are safe to use on baby’s skin.

#4. Fill the bathing tub with toys

One of the things that can lure your baby into taking a bath is to fill the tub with lots of colourful, bathing toys.B Bathing time can then turn into a fun, play time and will keep them occupied. You can also use foam letters that stick to the bath sides. In this way the kid’s attention will be diverted and the thought of being cold in a bath will not occur.

#5. Use a humidifier

If you stay in a place where there are extreme winters, it is always a good idea to heat the room before you get the kids out of the bath. This way there won't be a change in temperature when your child will come out of the bath, wrapped in a towel. There are heating systems or heaters available in areas with extreme winters. Humidifiers can have the same heating effect. Only it would be better because it wont rob the room off its moisture and humidity levels. So there will be less chances of your child catching a cold.

#6. Do not use a lot of products

Sometimes parents apply a lot many creams and moisturisers and even oil on their babies- they overdo it. Some parents apply a lot of soaps and shampoos in order to keep their kids clean. Do not use soaps and shampoos everyday as it might just take away the existing moisture from your baby’s gentle skin. Using soap once a week in winters is a good idea. The rest of the time you can give a water bath to your kids. Also read: 7 Proven Safe Bathtime Tips: A Mom’s Guide

#7. Dry the hair first

Your kids are going to shiver if the head is wet. If you have given them a shampoo or they have gotten their head wet, dry the hair first. If this is not done then shivering might be prolonged and the idea of taking a bath can be a torturing experience for your kid. You don’t want that to happen, right?

#8. Close windows and doors

Cold wind can creep in from open windows and doors. The room will be much cosier if all windows are closed. Close the windows and door of the bathroom as well when taking a bath. The steam from the bath can create a misty environment in the bathroom which will make the kids feel warm and cozy and also help in healing stuffy nose and colds.

#9. Join your kids in the bath

The bath time can be made into a fun, family bonding time, if you could also join your kids in the same. You can play games with them, make bubbles for them, show them different water tricks. This way the kids will relate bathing into a fun activity. Just like in summers they go swimming with you, in winters they can have a nice, fun play, bathtime with you.
